The Friends of Sable Island Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection of this special place, is thrilled to present the Canadian premiere of this new documentary along with the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. We invite the public, media, and all those with a special interest in Sable Island to an evening dedicated to this international treasure. There is no charge for this event; entrance to the museum is free after 5pm.
“The Magic and Mystery of Sable Island” is a
44-minute documentary film about an intrepid band of six sailors who voyage to one of the Atlantic’s most remote, inaccessible and uninhabited islands. The crew explores the island’s history amid a backdrop of unique wildlife including feral horses, birds and the world’s largest grey seal colony. The film uses contemporary footage with sequences of archival film and stills to unravel Sable Island’s cultural history and this fragile isle’s threatened ecosystem.
Join Friends of Sable Island Society and Bill Barton as he presents a new documentary film on Sable’s history and environment at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. Bill will be on hand for a Q&A session following the film. Please plan to stay for conversation and refreshments after the viewing.
