The Friends of Sable Island, a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection of this special place, is proud to present the first public showing of this documentary in Nova Scotia. It will be shown on Tuesday April 19th, 2016 at 7pm at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic on Lower Water Street in Halifax, as part of the Museum’s Sable Island Month. We invite the public, media, and all those with a special interest in Sable Island to a special evening dedicated to Sable Island.  There is no charge for this event; entrance to the museum is free after 5pm.

S(t)able Island: The Beauty of the Free” is an inspiring documentary that explores the paradoxical beauty and ecological balance of Sable Island. There’s something truly magical about being isolated from the construction of society and just being left alone with nature. LaPlante hopes her documentary will give viewers an educational and emotional experience of Sable Island as if they’ve just travelled there.   Filmed at the time Sable Island became a National Park Reserve, the documentary primarily focuses on the mysterious wild horses that have called Sable home for hundreds of years.  Copies of the documentary will be available for purchase after the presentation.

About the Videographer

My name is Rae-Anne LaPlante. I’m a video journalist at Shaw TV on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. I became passionate about TV production as I saw the influence media can have on society, and as cliché as it sounds, I always wanted to work in a field where I could provoke change in people’s hearts. Yes, I am a dreamer, and I admit, I hope to always want to remain one.
