2021 Scholarship Award
For the nineth year, the Friends of Sable Island Society offered a scholarship for Nova Scotia Grade 12 students. The board received 34 submissions. This year, students were invited to write a children’s story with a moral that is set on Sable Island in a time period of the student’s choice. Entries ranged from stories of friendship, perserverance, team work, and the effects of polution. The quality of the submissions was great with original artwork and well thought out plots. Thank you to all students who took the time to enter their work. We hope you learned something new and amazing about Sable Island in the process.
Congratulations to Maia Theriault the winner of of the $1500 scholarship, for her work titled, Coco and
the Red Balloon. Alissa Acker received $500 for her second-place submission, Protecting Sable Island. Their winning entries are posted below.
