Overview:
Sable Island National Park Reserve (NPR) is protected under Canada’s National Parks Act as its 43rd national park. We are seeking presenters for a conference on Saturday November 9, 2019 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The conference is dedicated to Sable Island NPR and the marine environment that surrounds and maintains the Island. This is the third in a series of conferences related to the appreciation and management of this surprising sandbar in the north Atlantic Ocean.
Themes:
The conference is open to all topics related to Sable Island NPR, Sable Island Bank, and Sable Gully. The main themes will be: natural history/science, cultural history, visitor experience, and park management. Of particular interest will be presentations by youth. And we encourage artists to book a space at which to exhibit their work.
Conference Format:
Saturday morning and afternoon: paid-entry with formal presentations of up to 15 minutes each plus time for questions and answers, grouped by theme; poster presentations; interactive activity stations; exhibit space
Saturday evening: paid-entry dinner with keynote speaker
Note: As per past practice, selected participants will be responsible for their own expenses related to their attendance at the conference including registration, transportation, accommodations and food. If this is a significant deterrent to your participation, please let us know.
Apply to be a Presenter:
We will use abstracts to select the presenters. And we will also use the abstracts in the conference program and share them on-line to introduce the presenter(s) and topic. Please submit the following information as your application to present at the conference:
- title
- presenter(s) name(s) (including any relevant designations like BSc, PhD)
- main contact information (e-mail and phone)
- names of others associated with the work (if applicable)
- organization (name of university, company, non-profit, etc… if applicable),
- theme (natural history/science, cultural history, visitor experience, park management, other)
- format (oral presentation, poster presentation, interactive activity, artist exhibit, other)
- maximum 250-word description of the topic that will be addressed
