Another step forward for the Sable Island National Park Reserve was announced on February 12, 2103.
Canada’s Environment Minister, Peter Kent announced that a bill to formally protect Sable Island National Park Reserve under the Canada National Parks Act has been tabled in the Senate of Canada. Nova Scotia will introduce similar legislation soon in the coming session of the House of Assembly. Charlie Parker, Nova Scotia Minister of Natural Resources, said “The national park designation will give Sable Island the highest level of protection of its natural and cultural features for present and future generations”.
