Managing Sable Island as a National Park Reserve includes managing the rich cultural heritage of the island. This complex task is defined and guided by a “Cultural Resource Value Statement” (CRVS). This talk will explain what that document is, and the process, working with community partners and within the disciplines of history and archaeology, of drafting the CRVS for Sable Island NPR.

Keith Mercer is the Cultural Resource Manager for Parks Canada in Mainland Nova Scotia. An historian by training, he overseas cultural heritage and public history for places like Sable Island, the Halifax Citadel, and Kejimkujik.
