It’s always a pleasure to learn about someone’s personal connection with Sable Island!
We thank one of our society’s members who brought a book about their ancestor to our attention: A Saga of Sable Island, 1800-1830: The Story of Edward Hodgson, A Governor of Sable Island by Helen A. Hodgson
This is a historical fiction based on archives, letters and family stories. It shares the challenges faced by those first brave families who helped create the Humane Establishment on Sable Island, a lifesaving effort led by Nova Scotia to address the frequent shipwrecks.
We were pleased to offer photos for use on their website, and invite you to visit http://www.asagaofsableisland.com/ and consider adding this book to your Sable Island library.
