A New-to-Us Book – A Saga of Sable Island

It’s always a pleasure to learn about someone’s personal connection with Sable Island!

We thank one of our society’s members who brought a book about their ancestor to our attention: A Saga of Sable Island, 1800-1830: The Story of Edward Hodgson, A Governor of Sable Island by Helen A. Hodgson

This is a historical fiction based on archives, letters and family stories. It shares the challenges faced by those first brave families who helped create the Humane Establishment on Sable Island, a lifesaving effort led by Nova Scotia to address the frequent shipwrecks.

We were pleased to offer photos for use on their website, and invite you to visit and consider adding this book to your Sable Island library.
